La Leche League

LLL of Northern California & Hawaii

La Leche League is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is a simple and natural process, but you may need support and information on the correct positioning of the baby at the breast, working and breastfeeding, avoiding problems, and overcoming any difficulties that may occur. Mother to mother support is the heart of La Leche League, and attending La Leche League meetings can help you learn about breastfeeding from other nursing mothers. At these monthly meetings, mothers share not only their questions and concerns but also the benefits and joys of breastfeeding. Being in touch with La Leche League can give you the network of support you need.

While meetings and phone help from Leaders are always free, membership in La Leche League has many benefits. Your tax-deductible membership fee of $40.00 per year helps support the work of LLL of Auburn and La Leche League International. Benefits of membership include a one-year subscription to the bimonthly magazine NEW BEGINNINGS and LLL of Auburn lending Library privileges. For more information, please contact a Leader.

La Leche League of Auburn, California

All breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women interested in breastfeeding are welcome to come to our free meetings or call our Leaders for breastfeeding help.

The ideal time to begin attending is during pregnancy, because the information received in advance may prove vital to a mother when her baby arrives. Pregnant women may find it helpful to attend a series of four monthly meetings before the baby is due and to obtain a copy of the LLL manual, THE WOMANLY ART OF BREASTFEEDING (available for purchase at meetings).

Nursing babies are always welcome. You may begin with any meeting, come as often as you like, and ask any questions regardless of that day's topic. Our meetings rotate through the following topics:

Leader Information

La Leche League Leaders are experienced mothers who are accredited by La Leche League International to help mothers and mothers-to-be with all aspects of breastfeeding. Leaders are ready to offer encouragement, support, information, and practical help whenever you have breastfeeding questions that cannot wait until the next meeting. We are happy to talk with you, so please don't hesitate to call. Since we are mothers, as well as volunteers, working from our own homes, we do appreciate your efforts to time your calls accordingly. Thank you.
